Hello I've been looking for an answer to my problem for over a week now and I  cant find it. I hope you guys can help me.

I have set up qmail toaster in a RH9 machine. everything seems to be normal but the smtp service.

when I try to telnet my machine as localhost to port 25, it connects but if i do it from the outside, it doest.

there's no firewall or anythinbg like that. the weird thing also is that I can connect to pop3 from the outside but not smtp.

thanks in advance.

How remote is your 'outside' connection? Some providers such as Earthlink et al filter 25 egress (ingress too?) on their network. If your connecting from some sort of home DSL this could be it.

Try it from a box on the same subnet. If thats no good Id suspect some local process is blocking it. Two guesses off the top of my head would be tcp.smtp having a x.x.x.x:deny  entry or some firewall setting. IIRC Redhat has one enabled by default.
